Statement By Complete Solar CEO on ITC Decision Regarding Suniva Trade Complaint
Complete Solar Denounces ITC Decision
San Mateo, Calif. (September 22, 2017) – The federal government should help American businesses and reject putting new tariffs or other trade remedies in effect. New tariffs will cause American job losses and won't create new ones because they will artificially prop up prices that aren't competitive globally and will slow consumer demand.
The two foreign companies making this petition are in bankruptcy and trying to save their businesses, which is understandable. But if this leads to many small American businesses having to buy an artificially expensive product that puts their businesses at risk, our government will be ruling in favor of foreign companies and against American small businesses, one of which I founded.
As an American small business trying to compete in what has been a growing industry, we've been working hard to cut residential solar costs and better serve consumers. Today's ruling could lead to this work being undone and slow innovations that are critical to growing our economy.
This decision takes a very narrow view of the industry: it looks at a thin slice of the value chain and could put at risk downstream companies like Complete Solar that are creating real value for American consumers, American businesses, and American employees.
