Understanding Your Electricity Bill Post Solar

By now, most people understand that going solar can save them money. However, not all know how to read their electric bills post solar. Hopefully, this will help.

Once you get permission to operate (PTO), you are transitioned to an annual net metered (NEM) billing program instead of the usual month-by-month bill. Through this system, you won’t pay individually for the powered consumed each month. Instead, the monthly statements given are just a means of informing you how much power has been consumed and generated by your system for that particular month.

After 12 months have passed since getting PTO, you will then be given your annual true-up bill, which considers all the credits and payments accumulated over the past year. The end amount is how much you either owe or have as credit. If there is money owed, this would be the time to pay for all your electricity usage over the past year.
